US Open

Our tickets told us that the gates opened at 6 p.m. for the 7 o'clock match but we hoped we would be allowed into the grounds at Flushing Meadows earlier to go shopping but the gate keepers were very strict and let us know in no uncertain terms that we could not start lining up until 5:30.
We had two hours to waste.
We went into the park and took a short walk to The Unisphere and spent the time people watching.
As well as finishing our strudle, rugalach and chocolate crossaint.
.
A lot of people like to take photos of themself holding up the Unisphere as this little girl is doing.
As we watched some small children delight in touching the water we soon found out that hands and feet are not allowed in the fountain.
The security guards whistles were very loud and obnoxious.
Laying on the side of the fountain was acceptable however so Sistah didn't get in trouble; she just had multiple secret photos taken of her.
Oh look,
I really was there!
We thought we could go in the south gate but soon found it was limited to guests with "credentials."  We weren't that special so we had to walk back to the front and wait in a very long line - however we were much closer than most.   This is the line behind us - if you can really call it a "line."
The gates were opened exactly at 6 p.m. and we entered quickly after a bag check.
Sistah, girlfriend and hubby went into one the shops while I searched for water and then met up with hubby to make way to our seats.
We were in the nosebleed section so we got a great view of the grounds on our way up to our gate.

We had a great view from our seats too.
I went up and down these stairs a few times and thought I would die everytime I did.
Hubby was very excited to be at the match even though we still had a half hour to go.
More proof that I actually went to New York.
Hubby enjoyed every minute - he didn't even seem to notice the obnoxious people behind us who didn't know how to be quiet.  The rest of us noticed so we moved after the first match which ended at 10 p.m.
We were about 23 rows closer.
Aren't we cute?
We soon found and moved into some even closer seats.
Many people left early because it was so late but we decided that we hadn't traveled all the way across the country to leave early!
The woman's match was very exciting!
It didn't end until about 1:25 a.m.
A record at the US Open.
We were happy to be a part of the history making night.
