Marked Giveaway

Image
I am very excited to have been asked to help introduce my friend Lynn Krawczyk as Artistcellar's newest Signature Series Artist!  I was given a set of her new stencils, Marked , to play with.  I will also be giving away a set of this lovely stencil set!  More on that later. I love playing with stencils and decided I would use Lynn's stencils to create mono-prints with my Gelli Plate, which I would then use to make ATC's (artist trading cards). However, before the paint even touched the stencils I used them to create a few masks.  A little tracing, and a little cutting, gave me these fun pieces from her Tracks stencil. Oh wouldn't these make lovely railroad tracks, or zipper tracks?! Anyway, unfortunately once I get going with monoprinting I forget all about taking photos!  I should have video taped myself!  You can view a video I made of my multi-layer technique here.  I don't bother cleaning my stencils inbetween creating the layers, and

Monoprinting Thermofax Workshop

Last week I went up the canyon to a workshop sponsored by the Utah Surface Design Group .    Timmy, co-president of USDG, has a wonderful studio that she generously shares with the group for workshops.  Timmy was drying some herbs in the studio kitchen.  The canning jar on the left is filled with mint tea she brewed fresh for the group.  I dyed some fabrics the night before and had to wash them out before I could get started. I used color magnet on the piece at the right.   In the morning we made and played with Thermofax screens. I decided to experiment with my cog thermofax . . . . . .and some silver paint. I really like it! I have since added a gold layer as well.  My friend, Lynn Dell, used one of my zentangle drawings to make the thermofax on the right. I just love how it turned out!   I also love the dot thermofax she made!  After lunch I taught an Intro to  Gelli Plate s class.  I found a new use for Gelli Plates. . . pa

Class Preparation

Image
Are you enjoying the lazy, hazy dog days of summer yet? Nope, me either. I'm still working, but I am enjoying it! I have two classes coming up in the next couple of weeks and I always forget how much time it takes to prepare for new classes.  The new class is a Webinar for Interweave called "Creating Pray Flags with Sun Shibori and Stencils" and the other class I will be teaching is a lecture on dyeing fabric for a local quilt guild who know nothing about dyeing fabric.  OH how I LOVE infecting new people with the joy of surface design!   Right now, I am engrossed in the design of the power point portion of the webinar. I love designing. I've also been spending a lot of time making Shiboried fabric (shiboried?  is that a word), stenciling and sewing and as a result I have about 5 more sets of prayer flags in a few other color ways that I will be hanging later today to photograph.   (Here are those extra flags!) I also need to do some dyeing
