It's fall! My favorite time of the year!

Now that "Lost in Translation" is finished  I thought I would enter her in her first show: Blogger's Quilt Festival . "Lost In Translation" was made using my sun painted fabrics,  free-form piecing and a faced binding. The wonky shapes and edges tell the story of how easy it is to get just a little off track in our day to day lives, but pull it all together and still end up with something of beauty. Whenever I finish something  I think of this spunky woman from an episode of MASH  - she is at the 45 second mark. "FINISH!" I'm done and I ain't doin' no more! Thanks to everyone for their comments and kind words about getting rid of the quilt police in my head. I didn't pick out the square quilting.  I cut the edges a little wavy but maybe they should have been a little more wavy.  Oh well. After some internal debate I decided to do a faced binding. It's been a little while since I did a faced binding and I forgot how to do it so I started it all wrong and picked it out again, looked up a tutorial and did it right the second time.  "Lost in Transition" is now FINISH!  Well actually it still needs a label and sleeve, and then it is FINISH! What are you finishing these days?

The bees were a buzzing in Southern Utah last week!

I hardly unpacked my bags from Quiltfest before I was repacking and headed to southern Utah with my two youngest kids.   We played hard. . .  . . .got the puppy wet from the sidelines. . .  . . .climbed. . .  . . .explored. . .   (poor puppy didn't like the exploring part)     . . .road in a 1965 Ford Mustang. . .  . . .explored some more. . . (this time she liked it!) . . .took goofy photos. . . . . . and just had a great time! I hope you had a great weekend too!

Planning for next year!

My friends  Sylvia,    Anne , Helen and I had a  play date  while at the Utah Quilt Festival this week. I set up everything in my hotel room . . . with plastic trash bags covering the bed, table and floor. . . . . .and we went to work. Sylvia wanted to learn how to use a thermofax screen. . .  . . .so I showed the 3 of them this simple surface design technique. Sylvia had fun experimenting on one of my ugly fabrics with a thermofax screen I purchased from Lynn at Smudged Textile Studio . Anne used one of the coneflower thermofax screens I created on to a hand dyed fabric. Helen used a paisley thermofax screen I had purchased from Judy Coates Perez .  Helen used another piece from my ugly fabric. I also showed them how to use a silk screen with a stencil.
