Suminagashi Marbling

Image
I recently took a class at Saltgrass Printmakers in Suminagashi Japanese Marbling on paper. So much fun! Unfortunately our instructor, Anna Bugbee, tore her ACL while skiing and was unable to teach. Stefanie Dykes from Saltgrass took the reigns and taught the class in her absence. She did a great job. Suminagashi Marbling by Anna I've done some marbling on fabric using shaving cream and water as the base, with Procion dyes. The results were good but always too much white space for me. I've also had a kit from  Jacquard  sitting on my shelf for Erbu marbling, which requires the base be made from Gall and some other stuff. It has intimidated me for some reason, even though it's a kit. Suminagashi marbling is created using ink on just water, and can fill the entire paper if desired. It seemed like a great place to start, and also so much better to be in a class with a teacher to help me overcome my nervousness about the project. Stefanie demonstrating how to pull the ...

I Heart You

Image
I participated in a make-along webinar with Cloth Paper Scissors on Valentines Day and made this beautiful heart in just half an hour. It shouldn't have taken that long but I started out without all my supplies together!  It was so easy to make and looks beautiful too which is an extra bonus.  If you check Cloth Paper Scissor's Facebook page you can see all the beautiful variations people made during the make-along.  I followed the directions almost to a T and therefore mine looks a lot like their sample.  Some people are much more creative than I am. ;)  If you missed out on the webinar and would like to make one for yourself, click here for the instructions! I'm linking up to Nina-Marie's Off the Wall Fridays .  Hop on over and see all the lovely things people are doing these days!

About a month ago I found a Fiskar Circle Cutter on sale and since I have always wanted one and was feeling generous to myself, I splurged. I finally had the time to take it out of the package and play today.  I decided to make some circles from the scraps of paper I mono-printed with my  Gelli Plate to make my Sketchbook pages .  I was impressed with how easy it was to cut the circles.  I'm also saving the strips to use in my sketchbook. But the real reason I bought the cutter was to see if it would work on fabric. The product doesn't claim to work on fabric but I thought it was worth a try. I ironed a piece of freezer paper to the back of the fabric and gave it a whirl:  Sadly, it didn't all the way through the first time so I tried again from the freezer paper side.  Success! I decided to try cutting just the fabric using a liquid wash away stabilizer and was successful again!  However I found that trying to cut mult...
