Sacred Geometry 2 Blog Hop and Giveaway

Image
I'm excited to share these newest stencils from Artistcellar with you:   Sacred Geometry 2 . I love me a good stencil and these are four great stencils. I had fun playing with the stencils in lots of different ways. I could break this post down into three blog posts, but I'll share it all here.  I hope you are ready! I wanted to see if I could create a repeat pattern so I pulled out the notebook and traced: I really liked the way the stencil design looked without all of the spaces traced.   I filled in the shapes with zentangly doodles. This was so relaxing. Next, I had to see if I could make a stamp from on the images.   I have been a little obsessed with stamp making lately.   The image was transferred on to the rubber by patting an ink pad over the stencil: I didn't want to waste the corner so I added another part of the stencil there.   No one said the stamp had to be exactly lik...

Exciting News

Lots of exciting news last week! The Quilting Arts TV DVD, Series 1700 ,  arrived as well as the Feb/March 2016 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine .   I have two episodes on the DVD which were filmed back in September. . .  . . . and an article in the magazine! Both of these dreams can now be checked off my bucket list. I love teaching and am very excited to share my knowledge about cutting stencils and sun printing. Both items can be purchased at the Interweave Store .

For Frances

Frances Holliday Alford celebrated a big number birthday this year and asked her Facebook friends to send her a 6" quilted square.  I am pushing the deadline!  Frances was born under the sign of the Rooster and I decided I would create a rooster stencil to put on my block.  I drew the rooster and then used my white pen to create some bridges within the drawing for a stencil. I imported it into the  Silhouette Software and cleaned it up quite a bit before cutting it out of freezer paper. I wanted a red rooster on a piece of blue moon Gelli® printed fabric.  This was my first time using one of my Liquitex paint markers on fabric.  It was very easy to use! The paint wasn't as opaque as I had hoped for though. The rooster just didn't stand out as much as I had hoped. I could have ironed the stencil back on and painted again with a more opaque paint but I decided to go another direction. I love this sunflower Gelli® printed fabr...

Quilting Arts TV - Part 1

Image
I have so many photos of my adventure to Quilting Arts TV that I decided to break it up into several posts. I hope you don't mind!  I had a fabulous time, especially once I completed my three segments and got past the nervousness. Everyone at KS Productions , where the show is filmed, was fantastic!  Everyone there really goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.  I really hated to leave.   Well, enough of my gabbing - on to the photos! The adventure began when I took a train. . .  . . .plane. . .  . . .and fancy schmancy automobile to KS Productions in Solon, Ohio. I drove straight to the studio from the airport. I had to get my things organized for filming the next day.   Laura Wasilowski and Frieda Anderson   were getting ready to film with host, Susan Brubaker Knapp , when I arrived. Laura and Frieda are two of the nicest people you will ever meet!  They made filming look like...

Geometric

Image
This month's Printed Fabric Bee theme from Queen Bee Gerrie Congdon was "Geometric." I played around at making different shaped stencils.  I had so much fun making a multilayer stencil last month I decided to create another using circles, which I cut into fourths and then cut some (orange quarter circles) out of one stencil and the others (blue) out of another stencil. I started with an ice dyed fabric and stenciled in a Navy blue Jacquard textile paint .  As I went I felt like the Navy was a little dark so I went over the Navy with Turquoise.  And then went with yellow for the second stencil. It was a very fun challenge! If you would like to win a 6" piece of this fabric as well as 6" squares of the other challenge fabrics hop on over to Gerrie's blog or The Printed Fabric Bee blog and leave a comment!
