Something About Nothing

A new sample for Whimsy Cottage's  new location.   I am really pleased with the way this little dress came out. The Mod Kid pattern was very easy to follow and went together quickly.  I traced the pattern, cut it out and stitched it together in just 3 1/2 hours.  It might take someone a little longer if they don't know how to make  their own bias tape.  I also used just one fabric for the bottom instead of the 6 panels which would require a few more seams.

I've reworked the project I started back in November and I really like it.  I took my friend Jennilyn's excellent suggestion of putting in a barn.   I still want to put one or two more borders before I quilt it. I will be teaching a class at The Super Spring Retreat on how to do machine reverse applique next April and this is my class sample.  It will also be on display at Whimsy Cottage along with the pattern  - that is once I get the pattern written.

I work part time at a fun quilt shop: Whimsy Cottage .   Occasionally I work in the store but generally I send out the email newsletters, keep the website up to date (click on the words Whimsy Cottage and you will visit the website) and I also get to make fun samples like the Koala I made last week and this Amy Butler Birdie Sling Purse I finished up today.  Whimsy is unique because Nancy, the owner, loves pure color and it shows in every part of the store.    I have enjoyed being allowed the freedom to explore color while working at Whimsy.  I have amazed myself as I have helped cutomers pick fabrics for their quilts.  I think it is easier to help others pick their fabrics but I am also much more confident with my own color choices.  I have grown as a quilter and an artist over the past few years and I attribute a lot of that growth to my associations with the owner, employees and customers at Whimsy.

A month or so ago we received a prerelease of the book "Pretty Little Presents" by Lark Books at work . I immediately loved the projects and knew that I would have to make some of them. There is a very cute flower needle book I made but forgot to photograph and I have another project from the book in the works that I will finish when I return from vacation but in the meanwhile I'll post this passport wallet. There is a zippered vinyl pocket, key loop, pen loop on the left and two vinyl pockets with a larger pocket underneath on the right. It is larger than I expected, but would be very nice for keeping together your passport, airline tickets and other items for traveling. Definitely the prettiest way to travel.
