Sketchbook Part 8

Image
This will be the last post with sketchbook photos.  I will do one more post with a video of the entire sketchbook.  These are a few fun random pages I think this would be a really fun wall paper. Love this color combination. Trying to come up with 15 different patterns can be surprisingly difficult. Thank goodness for Pinterest. This page started out completely in the shades of brown and it reminded me of a calico cat, so I blacked out everything that wasn't the cat, and put them on a pink and black quilt. This page is an example of times when you need to walk away. After I finished the pages, I really hated the left side, and loved the right side. I was very tempted to paint over the left side, and make it more like the right. I decided to step away and now I have decided it is all well and good together. An attempt at giving the circles some shape with pattern. Some are more rounded than others. It's fun to draw designs along a line and then fade out the background. Lots of ...

Mandala Fabric

Image
I created a few patterns from the mandalas I have drawn and had them printed on fabric through Spoonflower. I really like the images Spoonflower creates with my patterns. All of these designs are available to be printed on fabric, wallpaper, or the home decor they are pictured on!  Here is the link to my shop. I would sleep in this bed! or this one. . . This looks very western to me. Lovely! Party time. Comfy I'm going to hand quilt this piece.

Mandala and Patterns

Image
I've spent a lot of time in Photoshop changing colors, adding layers and combining bits and pieces to create patterns. I uploaded a some of my favorites and sent them out to be printed on paper. Besides showing me the color and clarity of the designs I thought they would make nice covers on some mini pamphlets. I thought I printed one page on an 80 lb paper, and the rest on a 110 lb paper, but they all feel the same to me. I think they are all 80 lb. I didn't return to the copy shop because the paper was all the same price and I didn't want the hassle. I'll be sure to check better next time. I like the way the designs printed. I follow a writer named Simon Moya-Smith on Instagram. One day he posted a photo of an article he was writing. The photo was a writing pad filled with a beautiful mix of cursive, printing, and lots of scratch outs. I asked him if I could use the image for my art, and he agreed. The first step was to make a png file of his handwriting. I used the ...

100+ days of Pattern

Image
On August 2, 2019, I started my second 100 day project. This one was 100 days of pattern. My initial idea was to use both old and new stamps to create these patterns, but life happens.  Day 1 - 36 - all hand carved stamps About day 45 I had to leave town and decided using iOrnament to create designs would be easier than dragging all my carving and printing materials with me. Can you tell where I stopped using hand carved stamps? There are a few days of stamps mixed in with the digital drawings. Most of the time I took the stamped images and used an app called Prisma to change up the colors. It would be difficult to print the stamps in these colorways without the app. Day 37 - 72 - A mix of hand carved stamps and digital drawings. Using iOrnament for so many days in a row really taught me more about the program. I amazed myself at what I could create. I really love this program. Day 73 - 102 - mostly digital drawings, but a few stamps too. I had a hard t...

Stamp Book Project

Image
I rescued a very old contracts law book from the recycle bin at the library recently and have decided to use it as a portfolio for my hand carved stamps. I love the way the designs look printed over the words in the book. Mister is always willing to supervise a new project.  These aren't all the stamps,  but I am getting there. Fortunately there is still a lot of room in the book!
