I took a number of my prints from the 100 Days of Pattern and had them printed on cotton, and denim through Spoonflower , a digital fabric printing company.   My designs on Petal Cotton from Spoonflower I would like to create some zipped pouches from the denim. I love to visit local shops and see if I can find an unusual piece (or two) of fabric.  After Craft Napa, Libby Williamson and I stopped at a couple of wonderful shops in the bay area and I thought I would share what we found. Our first stop was at A Verb for Keeping Warm . Libby immediately fell in love with this indigo linen.  The shop is filled with beautiful yarns and fabrics.  They are big in to weaving and natural dyeing.  They carry a lot of natural fabrics.  I really enjoyed browsing, and wished I had more room in my suitcase.  I purchased a lovely piece of linen which I hope to dye and stamp on.  Our second stop was to Stone Mountain and Daughter Fabric.  It is a HUGE store! A number of years back I had the opportunity to take a class from Melanie Testa. I had read all of her books, watched her on Quilting Arts TV, and followed her work online.  One of my friends accuses me of being a Fan Girl.  I can't deny it, it's true.  I am a huge fan of Melly's work!  I have learned so much about surface design from her over the years. I feel fortunate that our art has brought us together as friends as well. In 2013 I had the opportunity to take Carol Soderlund's Dyeing to Discharge class, and I soon became a big fan of Carol's too.  Carol's class was so well organized, and full of great information for dyeing and discharging.  By the time the week was finished I was exhausted, but filled with new knowledge and fresh ideas for my surface design work. My friend Melanie Testa has been creating beautiful fabrics for years.  She has written several books  and magazine article, and was featured on Quilting Arts TV .  I have learned so much from Melly over the years and I am so happy for her!  Melly has designed a new line of fabric for Windham Fabrics called: "Meadowlark Market"!  Her fabric will debut at Spring Market and hopefully be in a store near you very soon!  I can't wait to see it all in person!  If you are going to Spring Market be sure to stop by Melly's booth at Windham and tell her I said "Hello!" I've been a bit scatter brained as of late. "What?  Only lately?" True, I am a scatter brain most of the time but more so lately. Family Stuff mostly. It happens. Throws off my game. But I am trying to reorganize and get busy. I decided it was time to go through some fabrics and destash.  Too much clutter makes me crazier than usual.  I've listed some fabrics in my Etsy store .  I'm going to make some scrap bags too and list them there as well.  I have a lot of fabrics that I just won't use anymore because I am printing and dyeing my own now.  I know there is someone out there who will have a good use for them! And while I am trying hard to organize and get rid of things I have several books that are calling my name!  Life stresses sometimes call for some retail therapy. I hate when I am working on projects which I can't blog about.   I feel like I am hiding, so rather than not blog at all, I thought I'd share some photos of my baby, Keiko, hiding out in my studio. She really likes my scrap bin. . . . . .in the old studio. . . . . . and in the new studio. Recently she found a new comfy place to hide out. I did spend hours folding all this fabric especially for her after all.  I hope to be back soon sharing new projects and discoveries.

About a month ago I found a Fiskar Circle Cutter on sale and since I have always wanted one and was feeling generous to myself, I splurged. I finally had the time to take it out of the package and play today.  I decided to make some circles from the scraps of paper I mono-printed with my  Gelli Plate to make my Sketchbook pages .  I was impressed with how easy it was to cut the circles.  I'm also saving the strips to use in my sketchbook. But the real reason I bought the cutter was to see if it would work on fabric. The product doesn't claim to work on fabric but I thought it was worth a try. I ironed a piece of freezer paper to the back of the fabric and gave it a whirl:  Sadly, it didn't all the way through the first time so I tried again from the freezer paper side.  Success!
