Quilt National

Image
My husband and I took a red-eye flight to Columbus, Ohio, and then drove the one hour to Athens, Ohio, to attend the opening of the Quilt National quilt show where my piece, Wild Flowers was being shown. Made a stop at Tim Horton's, a Canadian chain for some delicious breakfast sandwiches and donut holes. We went to the Kennedy Art Museum, on the Ohio University campus. This is the side of the building. Photo of the front of the building from the cleveland.com website. The building was designed in the 1860s by Cleveland architect Levi Scofield, and was originally part of the Athen's Lunatic Asylum. It opened in 1996 as the Kennedy Museum of Art. There were some lovely prints, paintings and exhibits. It didn't take long to tour, which was good for my knees. I was glad to be able to see this Elizabeth Catlett print. I admire her work. New Directions - Reno, NV

Image
On my way to a family reunion I stopped in Reno to visit with Carol Soderlund.   After a tour of her lovely new home we went to the Wilber D. May Museum to see a beautiful fiber exhibit called New Directions  with work from  artists  Joan Dyer, Denise Oyama Miller, Sandra Poteet, Lin Schiffner, Linda Waddle, and Martha Wolfe. Carol and I in front of Martha Wolfe's Ritsurin pieces. There were many beautiful pieces at the show. Santa Cruz: Hydranga, a bojagi piece by Martha Wolfe especially spoke to me. I love the multiple layers. I feel like bojagi can't be fully appreciated in photos.  Streaming by Joan Dyer. Waves by Joan Dyer  Ritsurin Koi by Martha Wolfe Blue Bell by Martha Wolfe I'm so glad I got to go to the exhibit in person.  Art is so much better in person!

Do you believe this meme? I do! And when I travel is when I enjoy the hobby of collecting most. I love to visit local shops and see if I can find an unusual piece (or two) of fabric.  After Craft Napa, Libby Williamson and I stopped at a couple of wonderful shops in the bay area and I thought I would share what we found. Our first stop was at A Verb for Keeping Warm . Libby immediately fell in love with this indigo linen.  The shop is filled with beautiful yarns and fabrics.  They are big in to weaving and natural dyeing.  They carry a lot of natural fabrics.  I really enjoyed browsing, and wished I had more room in my suitcase.  I purchased a lovely piece of linen which I hope to dye and stamp on.  Our second stop was to Stone Mountain and Daughter Fabric.  It is a HUGE store! Two large rooms of every type of fabric.  My favorite part was the giant wall of b...
