Breast Pockets

Image
Two years ago, my friend, Melanie Testa , sent out a call asking artists to make breast pockets .  I made a couple of fabric pockets and then asked my daughter's volleyball team to make paper pockets for Melly.   I delivered the pockets to Melly when I went to New York for my sister's wedding. In the October/November 2014 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine , another call was put out for Melly's Breast Pocket project in a reader challenge called: "Art from the Heart: The Breast Pocket Project." I created two pockets and I thought I would share.  I started with an image of two birds I found at The Graphics Fairy .  I printed the birds onto a piece of TAP , and then ironed them onto some silk organza.  I auditioned them on several fabrics from Lynn Krawczyk's new fabric line: Inked , as well as a number of my own hand dyed fabrics.  I decided I liked Lynn's red Inked fabric best.  I love the inspiring words on this piece and felt they were very ...

Quotes Illustrated

Image
My copy of Quotes Illustrated arrived today! I've been im patiently waiting as many people reported that their copies had arrived from one coast to the other and so I was thrilled when mine arrived today. Even more so when I looked in and saw that Lesley Riley had autographed the book as well. What a treasure and collectors item! Here is the page with my artwork. *happy dance* Thanks Lesley for letting me be a part of this beautiful book! There are so many beautiful pieces of art work by wonderful artists and great quotes that Lesley has collected through the years.  You can buy your copy on Amazon .  The price keeps bobbing around as it becomes more and more popular and is currently about $16.  Last I checked it was #5 on the best seller list under the "Quotes" category!  Woohoo Lesley!

Paint & TAP Play Date Tutorial

Image
My friend is a watercolorist and has a group of friends she paints with.     We have been trying to get together so that I could teach them how to use TAP (Transfer Artist Paper) on paper with their watercolors.  It isn't hard at all, they could figure it out on their own, but we wanted to have a play date, and show them something different than what they usually do.  We finally settled on a date and time and today was the day, until 5 a.m. this morning.  My daughter woke up with a stomach bug.   No fun for her!  And NO play date for me.  I feel terrible for all of us. It couldn't be avoided. So to make myself feel better I thought I would have a play date with my blog readers. Get out your supplies and let's play! Materials Needed: Watercolor or mixed media paper Board or foam core larger than paper painters tape pencil white gel roller  pen Sharpie or other markers watercolor paints and watercolor...

Townhouse Quilt Finish!

Image
I received a lot of great suggestions as to where to place the flag on my townhouse quilt so I printed out a few different flags (as well as the label) onto a piece of TAP ( Transfer Artist Paper ), then ironed the transfers onto  Mistyfused  fabric. . . . . . so I could try the flags out in different areas. First on the right side of the door. . .  . . .flying on top of the building. . .  . . . and hanging from the top of the building. I decided to go with the flag flying  from the top of the building to offset the tree.   I took the piece to my friend Juliette's house  so that I could quilt it on her lovely Bernina 440 .   And so I could visit with Juliette. Pretty sure I did more visiting than quilting (more about that later in the week) but in the end it was all good because I finished the quilt! Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I love hearing from everybody , because I value your...

Tapping

Last night I taught at the monthly meeting of the Kalico Kutups.  They are a wonderful group of women who have invited me to their meetings a few times now.  Last night I shared Lesley Riley's TAP-Transfer Artist Paper with them.  We were having such a great time that I forgot to pull out my camera until the end when most of the ladies had left. Our hostess, Carol, has the most lovely sewing studio big enough to host the meeting. There were lots of wonderful pieces colored and transferred. The best thing I heard last night was that they were no longer scared to use their TAP! It really is an easy product that if a lot of fun to use. I'll be doing another demo about TAP and photo transfers this afternoon at HMQS , so if you are in Salt Lake come by the Utah Quilt Guild booth #412 and see me! I'll try to remember to pull out my camera this time too. P.S.  You'd think I was a dealer of TAP but honestly I am NOT, I just love the product!...
