Something About Nothing

*I am attempting to catch up on my blog this month by posting everyday.  I will be back dating the posts, but they will be done at least once a day through the month of December.  Sherri Lynn Wood came to the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild to sign her book ,  and tell us all about Improv quilting.  I took an Improv Curves class from Sherri Lynn at Craft Napa ,  and heard her lecture at Quilter's Take Manhattan .   Listening to her teach never gets old.  If you have an opportunity to take a class from her or listen to her lecture, take it!

The main reason I went to New York was to attend Quilt Alliance's Quilters Take Manhattan. There were several events before the main conference and the one I attended was  Victoria Findlay Wolfe 's trunk show in her loft. The quilts were all gorgeous. I love star quilts!!!  I really enjoyed hearing about how Victoria started in art as a painter, before discovering quilting, and her journey to where she is today.  Victoria is always coming up with creative new patterns.  Which reminds me, I need to finish my Thunderstruck quilt from Craft Napa!

The Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild presented a fabulous trunk show at the Quilter's Holladay meeting the other night.  I love Modern Quilts and really enjoyed seeing everything they brought.  Modern Quilts are mostly functional quilts with a modern feel to them.  They often use bold colors and graphic designs, and lots of negative space, but they can also be traditional quilt patterns which have been greatly enlarged or reduced.   Click here for a better definition .   I have tried to get everyone's names connected with the correct quilts.   Hopefully someone will let me know if I need to make any changes. JaNean Frandsen created this quilt for a challenge.  The challenge was to use a Dresden plate ruler.  I thought this was a very clever use of the ruler, and a beautiful design.
