Tie Dyeing

Image
My friend Lynn Dell Swapp is a wonderful fiber artist. Back in the day, she sold tie dyed t-shirts and tapestries out of the back of her van along Highway 101 in Oregon. This past weekend Lynn Dell (center), Diane (left), Bev and I went up to our friend, Timmy's studio to learn a few of Lynn Dell's tricks. With Lynn Dell's help, Diane folded two large 100% cotton sheets. Here is the critter she ended up making with the first one. We thought it looked like a mutant turtle - it just wasn't very ninja. ;) Diane used a dish drainer turned upside down in a tray as a base while she added the dyes to her fabric. I took an awkward selfie to prove that I was really there. I only folded some smaller pieces of fabric. Deformed camel? Dog with an excessively large tail as well as a small tail? What do you see? This the folded chevron snake - the backside is about to get more dye. The next day we put all the creatures onto the ground and spr...

I'm camping out in the sewing lounge at the Utah Quilt Guild Quiltfest. . .  . . . with a lot of friends, new and familiar. (Sorry I got ya with your eyes closed Paula!)  Stop by and say Hi! if you are in the neighborhood. Maybe I will have this piece finished!

Stamping

Image
I've been getting class proposals for the 2013 Utah State Quilt Festival ready this week.  One of the classes I am proposing is a class on how to make stamps for use in surface design.  I have had a lot of fun playing  er. . .working on this very hard project. What new technique would you like to learn how to do? Let me know in the comments section and maybe I'll find out something new I need to learn as well! Go see what's new Off the Wall this week!

Her beauty overwhelmed him; his accent and good looks made her swoon and the rest, so they say, is history. However, before this handsome-young-couple made history they met and became friends with Vaughn and Mary Soffe . Vaughn and Mary were lively, exciting, fun and loved everyone they met. They had come to the land far far away from a small corner of the world known as Murray, Utah, to serve a mission. Less than a year later, the handsome-young-couple traveled to Utah and married. Due to many circumstances beyond their control the handsome-young-couple found themselves unemployed and homeless in Utah. Vaughn and Mary quickly offered the handsome-young-couple a room in their delightful apartment above the Jenkins- Soffe Mortuary. The handsome-young-couple soon found jobs and their own delightful apartment j...
