Quilt Market: Classes - Part 1

I had the opportunity to attend a number of Schoolhouse presentations during market.  These very short classes are designed to help store owners learn more about the products available, as well as how to use the products and share them with their customers.  The premier event was hosted by Aurifil threads .  We learned how the company was formed and how their threads are made, as well as all about their new line of 80 wt cotton threads.  We also received a sample of the thread in a bag along with some Moda fabric. Alex Beronelli from Aurifil was one of the beginning speakers. I attended Lizzy House's presentation about her new fabric line "Printmaking."  She shared how she made her prints and that was the most exciting part to me. Anne Munoz

My friend and mentor, Anne Munoz , recently had a show at Finch Lane Gallery . Anne is a batik artist and is the one who taught me how to dye and batik fabrics.  I absolutely love her work.  She is a wonderful person and I love getting to work with her in the  USDG. The pieces in this exhibit were inspired by the photo safari she and her husband took to Africa.  Each piece is a batik that she has then machine quilted, and some are also enhanced with beautiful hand stitching.  Here are a few photos of her work in the show:

Utah Surface Design Group

It's been a week of creative meetings! The Utah Surface Design Group held their annual summer party this week. We were greeted by these lovely paper flowers. . . . . .all in a long row. The fences were also decorated with pieces of surface designed fabric,  some commercial, some home made. When the skies threatened to rain upon us the flowers were brought inside. I love them all together!  We had about 35 people come to the pot luck/show & tell.  The food was generous and delicious! I was enjoying show & tell so much that I neglected to pull out my camera right away so I have fewer photos than I should.  I'm not sure if you will think that is a good thing or a bad thing. This appliqué quilt was her FIRST quilt! She said it took 7 years to finish. It is hand quilted.  Hand painted Lavender lady.   Her face is polymer clay and  she is filled with lavender flowers.   She smelled divine. ...
