100 Days of Trees - 48 to 65

Image
A Banyan tree stamp for day 48. Day 49 was based upon a tree I passed one day with a great tire swing. Wood grain or tree bark for day 50. And then I became obsessed with using a Pental brush ink pen from Jet Pens. Some trees seemed to have better success than others. But that is the point of a 100 day project. Keep trying and trying to perfect your skills! Not too excited by the twin palm trees on day 62, but the single palm was a little better. Day 64 was an attempt at carving a stamp with a lot of texture in the leaves. There was a line of sunlight I tried to incorporate. Not sure how successful that was. And finally Day 65 was an attempt at trying a new style of tree.

Holiday Stamps

Image
I asked for some suggestions of stamps to create and there was a lot of interest in Pinecones, Evergreen branches and Poinsettia's so I obliged. Poinsettia by Lisa Chin After creating the Poinsettia I thought it needed an outline. Poinsettia outline by Lisa Chin I like how these two work together! Poinsettia stamps together by Lisa Chin I need to try stamping all three of these stamps together next . . .perhaps on some fabric! Evergreen and baby pinecone by Lisa Chin

In the Dark

We've had some big wind storms here in Utah last week. There were several trees that went down because of the wind being so strong.  One in particular caused our local power to go out at 4:30 a.m.  My girls were very disappointed that there was still power at the school.  After I sent them off to school I sat in the dark with a candle and suddenly noticed the beautiful patterns that were being cast by the candle.  I had to take photos.  Just a typical jelly jar with a grape motif.  But the designs were delightful The power was out all day and once the sun was up I crawled back into bed with a good book and snuggled down.  I was suppose to be cleaning and sewing but as I had been sick with a stomach bug the day before I thought it was a great excuse to spend some down time with the cats.  They didn't mind a bit. This is one of the many trees that came down in my neighborhood. This beautiful blue spruce which came up by the roots, was in my backyar...

Tree Tribute

Image
I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth's sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree. -- Joyce Kilmer My neighbor's two trees were cut down today. They were beautiful and provided a place to play and served as a home for many birds. We are all sad to see them go but after many years of contemplation my neighbor decided it was their time. The person who took down the trees said that the roots of the two trees were supporting one another and if one was taken down than the other needed to go too. I missed the willow being taken down but was able to document the taking down of the pine. Here is the beginning of taking down the branches. The branches were then put into the chipper. I...
