I'm playing and working this week at the Pie Plates Spring Retreat with my buddy, Sylvia .   Getting ready for the retreat was a bit of a challenge for some reason!   I only had one class to teach - Outdoor Concert Quilt - but all of my samples are in California so I needed to make another one.  I arrived at the retreat excited for the time with friends and sewing.  I had my old camera with me because I couldn't find my new one but I soon discovered I didn't bring the cord to connect the camera to the computer.  Sheesh. I brought my big, wonderful Juki sewing machine, because my regular sewing machine needs a trip to the shop but I FORGOT MY FOOT PEDAL!!! *deep sigh*  Fortunately Sylvia, her camera, and her Bernina came to my rescue!  This is my "Oh you want me to smile, do you!" face.  Once the sample was mostly completed (had to save some to show the class) I started working on a free form project I dreamed up th...

Another Outdoor Concert Quilt

Image
I can finally blog about the new Outdoor Concert Quilt I made over the holidays for my friends, Lori & Jim. I decided to go with one fabric instead of two for this blanket and I love the way it turned out.  I really like the pockets in this quilt so that you can easily throw in a few things and not need to lug another bag.  You can find the pattern to make one of your own in the 2012 issue of Modern Patchwork.   The magazine is on sale right now in the Interweave store for only $7.50!  It's a great time to get some great patterns.

Modern Patchwork Giveaway!

Modern Patchwork magazine is on stands now! There are so many great projects in this magazine! And I'm a little excited and YELLING about it because one of my projects is published in it! The OUTDOOR CONCERT QUILT!!! I will try to settle down a little bit but it is always so rewarding to share my work with others! This quilt has an oil cloth bottom to keep you from getting a wet bottom when going to an outdoor concert, play or picnic.  It also has a pocket inside in which you can safely carry a bottle of your favorite beverage (my favorite is Ting! and that is a soda not a wine, just in case you were wondering) and a couple of glasses once the quilt is rolled up and tied into a bag.  The outside also has a pocket to hold your tickets, car keys and some cash. The magazine also has some fabulous patterns in it for fabulous bags, quilts, a laptop cover (I really need to make one of those!) and other fun stuff.  I hope I have made you excited about reading...

Herman's Hermits

Image
Do you remember Peter Noone and Herman's Hermits from the 1960's? My guess is that 80% of my readers don't remember the band because they weren't alive in the 60's but I'm guessing everyone has heard at least one of their songs around a campfire: See you have heard of Herman's Hermits! This past Friday, my friend, Dawn, my husband and I went to the Sandy Amphitheater  to revisit the 60's and the British Invasion starring Peter Noone and Herman's Hermits. The sun was so bright when we first arrived. Poor dear! It was very hard to see. But by the time of the first intermission the sun was setting and it was lovely. The show was FANTASTIC! You can tell that Peter Noone really enjoys what he does and puts a lot of energy into his show. I also thought he was very funny as well as still a great singer. My favorite song he sang was: or maybe it was:
