Carve December Day 15-20

Image
The theme for Day 15 was "Dicey." Yikes, what does dicey mean? Of course my first thoughts went literal to a pair of dice. Next I started thinking about different dangerous things. I was chatting with my friend, Judy Tucker , while trying to figure out what to create. I doodled a goose, as approaching a goose can be dicey, but her feet were weird. Judy asked if she did ballet, and so I gave her some point shoes! Day 16 was "Fruit." All I had was a black stamp pad so I wrote the name of my fruit on the fruit, just so there was no doubt. I really like this whispy font. When I got home I stamped the lemon out with yellow, and a mix of yellow and orange. Day 17 was Miss Goose staying fit dancing. I think I may need to make more dancing geese. Day 18 was what I am calling a "Moon Flower" because it was created using a moon shape. Amazingly it made it all the way around! Day 19 - Shockingly, the ey...

Carve December Days 11- 14

Sometimes the best plans just don’t work out.  I wasn’t a fan of how this stamp printed for Day 11, so it was put aside and another created. Better. The berries aren't as neat as I had hoped but it was acceptable. Day 12 was a simple weirdo circle garbage stamp. Day 13 was time to add a few more lower case letters to my alphabet. Day 14 found me on a trip to visit my children and grandchildren. I remembered the rubber and carving tools but forgot to bring a ruler and circle stencil. I use these a lot to help me line things up on my pattern stencils. Without them I had to eyeball the design and hope it lined up. Sometimes I surprise myself! Are you following Carve December on Instagram? Lots of great creations!

Woohoo! The alphabet is done! Individually the letters are pretty cool, but the real test is in how they work together. Okay, that is better than I thought they would be, but I do feel the need to create a few more letters. I think I need a few more lower case vowels. But can I say how much I love the word "zombie." And maybe some other letters in lower case. I'm loving everything with that tangled "b." I need an entire alphabet like that. But maybe I wouldn't love it as much? Hmmm  I think I need a break from letters for a minute.  Time to carve a pattern or something. Any suggestions?

LMNOPQ - Lisa's Font Challenge - part 5

My friend, Anneliese , gave me a sweet little gift to help with my font challenge. It's over 400 pages of font yumminess! And it's egged on my challenge - very tough to stop, especially when I should be cleaning my studio! At this rate, I better come up some words to carve to complete Carve December. Any suggestions? Anyone? *tap tap* Bueller?

Eleven down, only Fifteen to go! Did I mention I am impatient? Maybe I need to do more than three a day? Speaking of impatience, I wanted to see what the letters looked like in words.  Fun sentence, huh? I think I need to do more lowercase letters. Hmmm. . .

More alphabet. What a surprise!  Don't worry, only a few more days and the entire alphabet will be done.

The Migrant's Alphabet - C is for the Children

Image
My friend,  Jane Davila , asked me to participate in her project called  The Migrant's Alphabet.  Here is a description of the project from the website: "In 1846, two Quaker sisters, Mary and Hannah Townsend, published the  Anti-Slavery Alphabet  to bring attention to the abolitionist cause against enslavement. Inspired by this book of Illuminated characters and accessible poetry, Bridgeport artist Jane Davila started a project, the  Migrant’s Alphabet , to bring awareness, education, and conversation to the current crisis of immigration in the United States and around the world." Jane asked 26 artists to create a 12"x12" piece of art, and a poem, using a letter of the alphabet, and something to do with immigration. I chose C for the children. My vision was to have the faces of a lot of children behind fencing, and in front of words. Specifically the words were to be the laws we have created in our country regarding the immigration of children...
