Townhouse Quilt Finish!

Image
I received a lot of great suggestions as to where to place the flag on my townhouse quilt so I printed out a few different flags (as well as the label) onto a piece of TAP ( Transfer Artist Paper ), then ironed the transfers onto  Mistyfused  fabric. . . . . . so I could try the flags out in different areas. First on the right side of the door. . .  . . .flying on top of the building. . .  . . . and hanging from the top of the building. I decided to go with the flag flying  from the top of the building to offset the tree.   I took the piece to my friend Juliette's house  so that I could quilt it on her lovely Bernina 440 .   And so I could visit with Juliette. Pretty sure I did more visiting than quilting (more about that later in the week) but in the end it was all good because I finished the quilt! Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I love hearing from everybody , because I value your...

Blurb Gift Center

Image
Getting inspired with the Blurb Gift Center There are a lot of gifts you could give this holiday season, but when it comes to something really meaningful, there’s nothing quite like the gift of a book you’ve made yourself. But before you start having visions of gluing and sewing together pages, check out the  Blurb Gift Center . Blurb  lets you make seriously beautiful books using their free tools. Just add photos and text, choose your options (like paper and cover type), and then order. Of course, you do have to decide just what kind of book you want to make. But relax, because they have put together the cool  Blurb Gift Center  to give you lots of ideas. For instance, if you’ve got a genealogical bent, there’s the  Blurb Family History Book . For those with newborns (or those that know someone with a newborn), a Blurb Baby Book  might be just the thing. And if you’re the kind of person who keeps getting asked for copies of your recipes, think about maki...

The Printed Fabric Bee: Orange Circles

Image
I'm very happy to be a part of The Printed Fabric Bee. Our first Queen Bee, Lynn Krawczyk from Smudged Textile Studios , issued the challenge for each member to create a piece of fabric with the theme: Orange Circles. I started the piece by silk screening Jacquard orange textile paint onto cotton pfd fabric. . .  . . .  and then over dyeing the piece  dutch chocolate brown . I felt it needed more so I created a new resist of circles using glue on a silk screen and overprinted a couple times with a few mixed oranges and came up with this piece:  Ta Da! One person said it looked like roses, and I agree, but I also think it looks like lots of coffee cup rings, which is very appropriate for my coffee addicted  loving friend, Lynn. AND NOW for the most EXCITING PART  of The Printed Fabric Bee. . . A GIVEAWAY! Each member of The Bee made an extra 6" piece of fabric to be given away! That is right  YOU  could...

House Quilt in Process

Image
It all started with a drawing that was too complex  for the small quilt I wanted to make. . . . . .I simplified. . . And simplified . . .and then created the main house fabric  from a piece that didn't dye as dark as I wanted for another project  (more on that one on Monday).  I stenciled bricks in two colors . . .  . . .And added some sparkly paint too.  Then I Taped off the windows and door. . . . . . And covered them in black. . .  . . .I covered the black with a white pen. The main house is done  but because this quilt is for The House Quilt Project   I still need to figure out where the flag will go. . . . . .hanging from top . . . . . . window. . . . . .flying from top. . . Where do you think the flag should go?

Blogger's Quilt Festival

Image
Now that "Lost in Translation" is finished  I thought I would enter her in her first show: Blogger's Quilt Festival . "Lost In Translation" was made using my sun painted fabrics,  free-form piecing and a faced binding. The wonky shapes and edges tell the story of how easy it is to get just a little off track in our day to day lives, but pull it all together and still end up with something of beauty. Jump on over to the Blogger's Quilt Festival to see all the other entries and vote for your favorite in each category!

Finish!

Image
Whenever I finish something  I think of this spunky woman from an episode of MASH  - she is at the 45 second mark. "FINISH!" I'm done and I ain't doin' no more! Thanks to everyone for their comments and kind words about getting rid of the quilt police in my head. I didn't pick out the square quilting.  I cut the edges a little wavy but maybe they should have been a little more wavy.  Oh well. After some internal debate I decided to do a faced binding. It's been a little while since I did a faced binding and I forgot how to do it so I started it all wrong and picked it out again, looked up a tutorial and did it right the second time.  "Lost in Transition" is now FINISH!  Well actually it still needs a label and sleeve, and then it is FINISH! What are you finishing these days?
