Giveaway Day!

Today is Giveaway Day at Sew Mama Sew and I am excited to be participating!
I am giving away a pdf copy of my reverse machine appliqué pattern,
Down on the Farm.

Reverse appliqué is a method of tucking under the edges of a piece of fabric in order to show another piece of fabric underneath.  Learn to make reverse-machine-appliqué blocks in this peek-a-boo 42" x 45" wall hanging or baby blanket.  Patterns are included to make the lamb, calf, colt, chicken, pig, fence and barn as well as instructions to make the blocks into a wall hanging or baby blanket.

Since this is a pdf copy that will be delivered by email the drawing is open to anyone, anywhere as long as you can open a pdf file!


To enter the drawing simply leave a comment telling me what your favorite zoo animal is.  Also, PLEASE be sure to include your email address in your comment or on your profile so that I can notify you when you win.  The contest will end at midnight, Pacific Standard Time, May 25th.  A random winner will be drawn the morning of May 26th and posted here so please check back on Thursday!

That is such a great little quilt. My favourite animal is a pig probably, but now that I think about it I don't think you would find them in a zoo. So just in case they are not zoo anymals, penguins are and they are also one of my faves.

The polar bears at the Baltimore Zoo are great fun to watch. And as a bonus, the prairie dogs are right next door. If they're out and about, they are hilarious.

I don't have a favorite zoo animal, because zoos make me feel bad, so can I answer in a slightly different way? My favorite of the animals on your quilt is the chicken--we adore our chickens!

Hopefully this is very detailed. I've never done reverse applique and get intimidated by these new things. Anyway....on to your question....my favorite barnyard animal? Probably the donkey. Because I'm so dang stubborn, I can relate to the donkey.

Gorgeous - this is exactly what I wanted to learn to do for my babies height charts I've been designing in my head :) My favourite animal growing up was always seals but I now love giraffe's purely because of my daughter's reaction when she first saw one at the zoo!!

My favourite zoo animal at the moment is the panda. We have 2 visiting our Adelaide (Australia) Zoo for 10 years and we go and see them as much as possible. So cute. But not loving those 40 degree days we have here in summer.

Gelli Plate Tutorial with Leaves

Here's the Gelli Plate Tutorial you asked for! My Gelli plate has been well used and well loved. 1. Place Gelli Plate on a flat, covered working surface, and place small dots of paint onto the plate.  My demo photos are with me using acrylics and paper but it works exactly the same with fabric paint and fabric.  I like using Jacquard Textile paint when I make fabric prints. 2. Use a brayer to spread the paint evenly across the plate. 3.  I used the leaves as a resist for the first print. 4. Place the paper/fabric on top of the printing plate and smooth it out nicely to get an even print. 5.  Carefully lift up the paper/fabric. Found a photo from when I printed the fabric - see same process. This is a first print. 5.  I know that MONOprinting means ONE print but seriously, when you remove the leaves from the plate there are these beautifully textured leaves left on the plate just dying to be printed.  I couldn't ignore them!  So this is wher

Quilt National

My husband and I took a red-eye flight to Columbus, Ohio, and then drove the one hour to Athens, Ohio, to attend the opening of the Quilt National quilt show where my piece, Wild Flowers was being shown. Made a stop at Tim Horton's, a Canadian chain for some delicious breakfast sandwiches and donut holes. We went to the Kennedy Art Museum, on the Ohio University campus. This is the side of the building. Photo of the front of the building from the cleveland.com website. The building was designed in the 1860s by Cleveland architect Levi Scofield, and was originally part of the Athen's Lunatic Asylum. It opened in 1996 as the Kennedy Museum of Art. There were some lovely prints, paintings and exhibits. It didn't take long to tour, which was good for my knees. I was glad to be able to see this Elizabeth Catlett print. I admire her work. Giveaway Day!

It's Giveaway Day over on Sew Mama Sew.   I love entering all the giveaways and seeing what is out there.  I also LOVE giving stuff away.  This year I am going to giveaway a copy of Quilt Scene magazine and a piece of my ice dyed fabric! Lots and lots of gorgeous quilts and great projects to make inside this magazine, including my article for the quilt "Unexpected Treasure" and a notebook cover called "Renegade Chevron." Sadly I don't have any jelly rolls to giveaway so you could make my quilt but I thought you might enjoy a fat quarter of my ice dyed fabric.
