Garland Giveaway

Good Morning! 
I just want to say "Hello" and welcome to my regular readers as well as anyone linking over from Sew, Mama, Sew's May Giveaway Day.
I am very excited to be participating in this fun giveaway.
Bloggers across the internet are giving away homemade items this week.
I am giving away this festive handmade red, white and blue basic garland
as well as a copy of my pattern "Garland Galore" which retails for $9 (US).
If you would like an opportunity to win these two prizes please leave a comment telling me what is your favorite thing to do in the Summer.  The contest will remain open through Midnight (central time) May 20th.  I will use a random number selector to pick a winner from the many comments and post the winners name on my blog May 21st.  Please make sure I have an email address to contact you either through your profile or in your comment.

Hands down my favorite thing to do in the summer is spend time with family while outside (particularly at the beach) but I'll take anywhere there's sun and water!!

My favorite thing to do in summer? Toast marshmallows with the fam in the backyard. Hands down.

My niece's 4th birthday is on the 4th of July (come to think of it, her birthday falls on the 4th of July every year...) and I know your garland would make a sweet decoration each year for her party.

Oooohhh I love garlands, fingers crossed for your lovely pattern :-) My favourite thing to do in summer is sit in the garden with a nice cup of tea with my husband and the boys and watch all the wallabies that come to eat the nice sweet grass in our horse paddock. We have a community of about 20 now and they are great to watch.

Cute American Garland!!! We live in Northern Idaho, so it's not real warm for every long, so we take advantage of the heat and go to the beach pretty much every day. I love the things my kids invent to do there.

I love these! I was considering something patriotic to make to hang in the house, what a perfect answer. Either your handmade one, or the pattern would be awesome! In the summer, I like to be cool. The sprinklers at the park are nice for the kids. What we do more often is have a ton of little children over to play inside which gets too loud and the mommies don't get to chat as much as we'd like.

I like having bonfires and toasting marshmallows. They are great if you put one on a LU petit ecolier cookie. (hope I spelled that right, it's a cookie with a layer of chocolate, milk, dark, extra dark or hazelnut) and playing in the sprinklers with my kids. Here's the Gelli Plate Tutorial you asked for! My Gelli plate has been well used and well loved. 1. Place Gelli Plate on a flat, covered working surface, and place small dots of paint onto the plate.  My demo photos are with me using acrylics and paper but it works exactly the same with fabric paint and fabric.  I like using Jacquard Textile paint when I make fabric prints. 2. Use a brayer to spread the paint evenly across the plate. 3.  I used the leaves as a resist for the first print. 4. Place the paper/fabric on top of the printing plate and smooth it out nicely to get an even print. 5.  Carefully lift up the paper/fabric. Found a photo from when I printed the fabric - see same process. Fabric Printing at Home Blog Tour

About two months ago I wrote a review about the book Fabric Printing at Home written by my friend, Julie B. Booth . Today I'm going to show you one of the things I learned from her book and then give you an opportunity to win a copy of the book for yourself. I used a hot glue gun to create a design onto a toilet paper roll.  I was impatient and didn't seal the toilet paper roll with white glue or a gel medium before creating my design.   I inserted a short roller handle that one can find at the local hardware store into the toilet paper roll. . .   . . . and used my 3x5" Gelli Plate as a paint palette.  I rolled the paint across a sample piece of fabric. . . . . .first going long ways. . .  . . .and then again short ways. Quilt National

My husband and I took a red-eye flight to Columbus, Ohio, and then drove the one hour to Athens, Ohio, to attend the opening of the Quilt National quilt show where my piece, Wild Flowers was being shown. Made a stop at Tim Horton's, a Canadian chain for some delicious breakfast sandwiches and donut holes. We went to the Kennedy Art Museum, on the Ohio University campus. This is the side of the building. Photo of the front of the building from the cleveland.com website. The building was designed in the 1860s by Cleveland architect Levi Scofield, and was originally part of the Athen's Lunatic Asylum. It opened in 1996 as the Kennedy Museum of Art. There were some lovely prints, paintings and exhibits. It didn't take long to tour, which was good for my knees. I was glad to be able to see this Elizabeth Catlett print. I admire her work.
