Sketchbook Part 4

 I like throwing in pages from some atlas' I have laying around. 

They don't have any special meaning. I just like maps.

Was trying to see what I could do with some washi tape, a polka dot piece of paper, and a black marker. The black out poem and heart illustration belong with the next page of the book.

The map is actually the opposite side of the page below. 

Went a bit more in depth here. Right side is the atlas with a few of my additions. Left side is my imaginary map. A continuation of the atlas.


A bit more color added to add more depth to the land masses, as well as a big ol' splash of water in the upper right hand corner. I like drawing sea creatures coming out of the water. I like this page.
And speaking of sea creatures. . .
. . .these two sperm whales made their way to the inside cover.
They are enjoying a meal of something delicious.

Like the inside cover whales, many of my drawings come about from the drips that duplicated themselves within the pages. After dragging some of the dye about, I decided these shapes reminded me of a couple of orca whales.

I decided they also needed a buddy.
And an experiment with my hand writing.
I'm starting to get used to my writing.

This page was a big experiment in writing.
I started on the left hand page with the numbers and alphabet, and rather than continue that experiment I found quotes I liked and copied them in all kinds of wiggly ways.
I can imagine something like this written in tiny letters and made in to a fabric.

House Bill 60 in Utah allows adults 62 and over to audit any public university/college courses for just $25 a semester. The law was passed in 1977, and as a youngster of 22 working at the University of Utah, I remember hearing about the benefit for seniors and felt very excited to get older. Here we are, 40 years later and I've finally reached the ripe ol' age of 62. I signed up for my first class in Relief Printmaking.  I am enjoying this class immensely. The professor,  Justin Diggle , is a talented printmaker, and all of the students in class are wonderful artists. I'm humbled by their enthusiasm and skills. I didn't realize what I was missing out on by being at home working on my art. The class is teaching me new skills, and challenging me to grow as well. Marked Giveaway

I am very excited to have been asked to help introduce my friend Lynn Krawczyk as Artistcellar's newest Signature Series Artist!  I was given a set of her new stencils, Marked , to play with.  I will also be giving away a set of this lovely stencil set!  More on that later. I love playing with stencils and decided I would use Lynn's stencils to create mono-prints with my Gelli Plate, which I would then use to make ATC's (artist trading cards). However, before the paint even touched the stencils I used them to create a few masks.  A little tracing, and a little cutting, gave me these fun pieces from her Tracks stencil. Oh wouldn't these make lovely railroad tracks, or zipper tracks?!
