Something About Nothing

I should just forget about numbering the paintings because I can't count.  I get off track all the time. Ugh. Should be 37 - 45 but I forgot #44 so this is 37-43, and 45-46 And this is #44 that didn't make it to the grid. 47 - 55 56 - 63 because I counted 58 twice. I seriously can't count. Some of my watercolors take a lot of practice, and some are okay the first time around. Others I play with digitally to get an idea of what I should do with them. I have a lot more in my sketchbook than what I post. I usually only post what I like. I thought I'd share a few here on my blog, success and unsuccessful.  Sometimes it takes time for me to see any good in a painting.  100 days of watercolors and 36 days in. I'm at the point where I am tired of the project and wondering if I really need to go on. 35 days is enough, right?!? Sigh. It is, but I said I'd do 100 days so I'll keep going. It does help to see all the progress I have made by flipping through all the photos. Day 1 - 9 Day 10 - 18 Day 19 - 28 Day 29 - 36 I just discovered that the watercolor book I am using is cellulose, not cotton. I've been frustrated with the wet on wet technique and perhaps this is why. I'm almost finished with this book so we'll see if the book with more cotton content helps, or if it's just the artist. lol

I feel like I've been making some art, but when I look at my photos (which is how I know what to write in my blog), it looks like I haven't done much of anything. I'm still hand quilting my giant orange piece, but I don't take photos while I quilt.  I'm still playing around in my sketchbook, but a lot of what I've done are background pages. I started a map in my sketchbook and my obsessiveness has made it a bit more detailed than my original idea. I didn't like a number of parts so gesso'd over those parts and started over. Thus I don't have much to show in the way of photos. Hopefully it will be done soon. Last week was Lunar New Year,  or as my Chinese-Jamaican Mother-in-Law likes to call it: "Chinese-Christmas-New Year." We had to do some shopping for the holiday. I love taking photos there. Where else will you find awesome waving cats? My Mother-in-law had her eye on the flowering artificial trees. She kept saying they would last a life...

A year ago (about November 2020) I started drawing and making stamps of gnomes and critters.  I used them to print a few holiday cards to mail to friends. In December I saw a quilt pattern for a tree quilt. The pattern, Plant Worry Grow Hope , was written by quilter Kitty Wilkin. A portion of the proceeds were going to The Trevor Project . I decided the trees and my gnomes belonged together. Some of the patterns were paper pieced foundation. . . . . . and some were a combination of foundation pieced and applique. After putting some together, I played with layouts. I printed a bunch of gnome and critter blocks to fill in blanks. Printed blocks drying on my cabinet. After printing I colored them in with Posca pens. More layouts Finally a layout which I stitched together. Next I worked on a border.
