Spencer Nugent

Spencer Nugent is a very talented designer and artist. We first met when he was a child, and I was a twenty year old working as a nanny for another family in Jamaica. Thanks to the internet we have been able to connect again as adults. I have really enjoyed seeing his art work on Instagram @sketchadaydotcom   He is so creative, and talented. During the Pandemic Spencer decided to create lamps by upcycling bottles, and making fittings with a 3D printer. He had an outdoor show at his home. My daughter, husband and I took the opportunity to attend and marvel at his work. How the ideas began And how they came out The broken glass lamp on the right was my favorite! Due to the pandemic, we were nervous about being out and about but it was so nice to see Spencer's amazing art.

My Daughter's First Hand Quilted Quilt

Image
My youngest, AnnMarie, wanted to learn to hand quilt a few years ago. I took her to an expert, my friend Leigh, and she learned the basics. After digging through my UFO's she found a top she wanted to quilt and went to work! It's now finished! We are both very proud of her work!

Pandemic Style

The Covid-19 Pandemic meant isolation. Many people turned to Zoom to meet for work and socializing. The Art Cloth Mastery class I am taking with Jane Dunnewold, started a weekly zoom meeting to stay in touch, and to continue with our lessons. Top to bottom, left to right - Jane Dunnewold, Me, Jeri Pollack, Leanna Chase, Roberta Burnet, Nan Travers, Jane Bishop, AniFaye, Libby Williamson, Jo Russavage, Lorinda Freeman, and Kim Svoboda Having this community of like minded artists has made a big difference in my life.  Another of our weekly meetings. Another big change in life has been the wearing of masks, and lots of hand washing. Many people have been opposed to wearing a mask. They felt it invaded their civil liberties. I feel it's just the right thing to do to protect myself and others.   I started making masks back in March but I soon found a pattern I liked to make best, and so I have been making a lot of masks. Mostly for my family, but also a few friends too. Batik fabri...

Free Hand Embroidery Garden

FYI: In an attempt to catch up the blog with the last year AND stay up to date, I'll be attempting two short posts a week. One that will show what I am currently working on, and one that will be back dated. Hope it doesn't confuse anyone too much  (myself included!) During the Pandemic I couldn't concentrate on the projects I should have been working on. I still felt the need to do something productive, even if it had nothing to do with what I "should" be doing. I used my birdie stamps as inspiration for a garden embroidery on Essex Linen .  First stamped birdie embroidered, and flower garden begun. I had no idea where I was headed. I stitched whatever felt right. All the pretty colors. Wonderfil Perle Cotto n, 8 wt. Although things were locked down a bit, I still chauffeured my daughter to her doctor appointments and waited in the car. I needed something to keep my hands busy. About a month after I started, I decided it was done. For some reason I really love the...

Took a live online Mini Book class with Seth Apter through Facebook. Monoprinted deli sheets for collage A Few Words A big mess was made, therefore you know I had fun! Look! Ah, Senor, you have greatly troubled my mind. Do you think me such a child?!? I hunt no animal. Come with me. How divine she was! Mister supervised, as usual.

Spring Farm

One that will show what I am currently working on, and one that will be back dated. Hope it doesn't confuse anyone too much  (myself included!) After the chicken coup got carved, I somehow became obsessed with creating a farm. I carved bunnies, sheep, cows, and a piggy. Then I experimented with different backgrounds. Experimenting with various background styles for my farm. I like this funky background the best right now. Baaa, Bunny, Ewe Moooo Hey Babe. But then I moved on to moonlit backgrounds. Maude likes to take moonlit walks, and dreams of going to space. Moonlit Bunnies I mailed a number of cards out to friends who requested one by messaging me on Instagram. Envelopes ready to mail off farm cards. Of course I couldn't send them in plain envelopes!  Birdie was elected Air Mail Captain. I should have carved them a hat!

Star Quilt

One that will show what I am currently working on, and one that will be back dated. Hope it doesn't confuse anyone too much (myself included!) A few years ago I took a class from Victoria Findlay Wolfe called Thunderstruck . One of my bucket list quilts was to make a star quilt, so of course I jumped on the chance to take this class at Craft Napa. Victoria taught how to piece Y-seams, and she made them so easy! I only finished a fourth of the quilt at Craft Napa . After putting it aside for months, I finally finished the piecing. The best part was that Victoria's instructions were so easy to follow that finishing the piecing was a breeze. I then set to hand quilting it with 12 weight thread from Wonderfil . This took a lot longer than it should as it kept getting put aside. I found it in a pile during quarantine and determined to finish it! Some of the...
